Omega Fire Ministries Devotional 20th February 2021 Message:
Today, we would be looking at the lifestyle of Jesus in the scriptures and how he handled some issues, so we can emulate Him because He is our perfect example.
The Bible says, “Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred” (Matthew 4 :1 – 2).
Hear this before I state the actual lesson of the day, temptation is common to man.
That you are a child of God, filled with the Holy Spirit does not exempt you from being tempted.
The difference is that you are at an advantage to overcome.
From the lifestyle of Jesus, we see that He was a man given to fasting. No wonder He was alert in the spirit, in tune with the Father and made outstanding impact in life in such a short time.
The Bible says, “Moreover when ye fast…” (Matt. 6 :16), not “if you fast”. This means that there is a time to fast and it is mandatory, not optional. God commands it, He chooses it to accomplish His purpose. “Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?” (Isaiah 58 :6).
That was why Jesus replied his disciples “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting” (Matthew 17 :21).
PRAYER.
My Father! My Father! As I pray now, let the hunger to fast, be awakened in me.
