Scripture Union Daily Guide 15th January 2021 Message
This chapter gives details of how Israel was to obey the First Commandment. They were to have no other gods but God; and they were to worship Him exactly the way He chose. What did the instructions mean to them at the time, and how do they apply to us today?
First, they were to destroy all the gods of the nations they were dispossessing, (vs.2-3). This may actually apply to some of us literally, because the traditional gods and ritual practices of our ancestors are still very much around. Besides that, however, there are the modern gods of our generation, whether they be positions, possessions or fame. Then they were to worship at the right place chosen by God (vs.5-7).
Jesus Christ told the woman at the well that this is a non-issue for us today (John 4:21-24). Also, their worship consisted of sacrifices and burnt offerings, (v.6). Jesus Christ is our perfect sacrifice, and our worship consists of sacrifices of praise to Him, especially in the way we live from day to day. (Rom. 12: 1; Heb. 13: 15 – 16; 1 Pet. 2: 5, 9).

• Lord, please teach us, and enable us, to worship you in spirit and in truth. • Ask for the spirit of grace and excellence in all you do.
Prayer for the week
Pray for the outpouring of the Spirit of God in our land. Pray for the redirection to true worship. Pray against false teachings and doctrines in our land. Pray for holiness, boldness, prayerfulness among all believers in Nigeria. Pray for Christian Pentecostal Mission (CPM).
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalm 30:5
