Scripture Union Daily Guide 14 August 2026 – Outline
At the threshold of the Promised Land, observe how Israel had to turn back because of her disobedience (Deuteronomy 2:1). How sad to miss out on our blessing because of unbelief or disobedience!
Note the half-hearted repentance of the people (Deuteronomy 1:41). Still stubborn and disobedient, they, who did not want to conquer Canaan with God by faith, now wanted to go into the land without Him, ignoring Moses’ warning. It’s no surprise that they were defeated (Deuteronomy 1:41-46). This is what happens when we attempt to do things in our own strength, wisdom and flesh!
Israel had to wait for a very long time, 38 years, before God finally gives them the green light to move in the direction of Canaan. But it is with certain conditions. If Israel went through Edom, they must not take the territory nor engage war with their relatives, the descendants of Esau. Instead, they will have to purchase food and water from the Edomites. And God gave similar instructions for the land of the Moabites, descendants of Lot (Deuteronomy 2:9). It is evil to defraud your brother of their God-given property.
REFLECTION
