TOPIC: Leadership In Knowledge and Fear of God

BIBLE READING
2 Samuel 23:1-7

1 Now these are the last words of David.

Thus says David the son of Jesse;
Thus says the man raised up on high,
The anointed of the God of Jacob,
And the sweet psalmist of Israel:

2 “The Spirit of the Lord spoke by me,
And His word was on my tongue.
3 The God of Israel said,
The Rock of Israel spoke to me:
‘He who rules over men must be just,
Ruling in the fear of God.
4 And he shall be like the light of the morning when the sun rises,
A morning without clouds,
Like the tender grass springing out of the earth,
By clear shining after rain.’

5 “Although my house is not so with God,
Yet He has made with me an everlasting covenant,
Ordered in all things and secure.
For this is all my salvation and all my desire;
Will He not make it increase?
6 But the sons of rebellion shall all be as thorns thrust away,
Because they cannot be taken with hands.
7 But the man who touches them
Must be [a]armed with iron and the shaft of a spear,
And they shall be utterly burned with fire in their place.”

QUESTIONS FOR MEDITATION
►Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
►Q3: Is there any command for me to obey?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 26th July 2026 – OUTLINE

David’s last words, as recorded in this passage are profound testimonies of his relationship with God and his understanding of righteous leadership. We have leaders who have affected their societies positively as we have others who have left bad legacies. David identified himself as a man anointed and inspired by God. This acknowledgment sets the stage for his final words, emphasizing that they are not merely his own thoughts but divinely inspired (2 Samuel 23:1-3).

Righteous leadership is described as light and brightness, suggesting that good leadership brings clarity, hope, and renewal (in 2 Samuel 23:4; Proverbs 29:2). God’s covenant with the House of David reflects a deep sense of eternal assurance (2 Samuel 23:5). David recognizes that this covenant is secured and comprehensive. Leadership is about obedience, with Jesus being our perfect example, as well as Moses (Hebrews 3:1-5, Hebrews 5:8). God recognizes and rewards faithful and godly leadership.

In stark contrast, we can notice the fate of evil men. The Bible compared them to thorns that are ultimately destroyed. This image highlights the inevitable downfall of those who oppose God’s ways. See 2 Samuel 23:6-7.

CLOSING PRAYER
Lord, thank you for the example of David and his heartfelt words. Help us to lead righteously, cling to your promises, and shun evil. May our lives reflect your light and bring glory to your name.
