Scripture Union Daily Guide 10 July 2026 – OUTLINE

Observe the three groups of people in today’s passage and determine to which of them you belong. First the two disciples who obeyed the Lord’s command (Luke 19:29-31). What joy did they have in obeying the Lord (Luke 19:32)? When we go the way Christ wants us to go, we shall find things just as He has said. Note also the crowds who found joy in praising God for all the wonderful miracles they had seen (Luke 19:36-38). They welcomed Him as the Messiah even though they did not understand the nature of His messiahship.

In doing this, however, they became a threat to the religious leaders (Luke 19:39,47) who composed the third group in this passage. This group not only seeks to silence worship, but also the worshipers. If Jesus entered Jerusalem as the King of peace, how come He suddenly changed to aggressive cleansing of the Temple (Luke 19:45-46)?

‘Gentle Jesus, meek and mild’ is not always a balanced description of our Lord. He was certainly not gentle when He confronted corruption. See His ferocious condemnation of the hypocritical, corrupt Pharisees in Matthew 23:13-36. Here in the Temple, Jesus was faced with blatant corruption. Sacrificial animals were being sold at exorbitant prices and the articles cluttered the only area where Gentiles could worship.

Closing Prayer
Pray that God may help you to worship Him in spirit and in truth so you may please Him.

Bible Reading Plan
Isaiah 5-8
