OPENING PRAYER

BIBLE READING
Luke 18:31-43
QUESTIONS FOR MEDITATION
►Q1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
►Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
►Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
Until the very end, Jesus kept in focus the purpose of His coming to the earth. And here again, He tries to share this with His disciples. Notice the disciples’ response (Luke 18:34a). See why? Luke 18:34b; Luke 9:45; They were still thinking mainly of an earthly kingdom of political power (Luke 18:31-33; compare Matthew 20:20-21).
Jesus was willing to undergo unfair trial, mockery, shame, beatings and ultimately death, to give us eternal life. Are our agenda or expectations preventing us from understanding His message to us? One would admire the blind man’s courage and determination. He did not allow his blindness prevent him from getting to Jesus. He made his voice heard (Luke 18:38), neither did he allow the irritated bystanders to silence him (Luke 18:39).
Do we have the same determination for a personal encounter with Jesus? Do we allow the opinion of others to keep us from Him? Notice the question Jesus asked the man (Luke 18:41). Sure, the man’s need was obvious. So, why this question? Probably it had a twofold purpose: making him define his need and demonstrating to the crowd that the man was not just asking for money – he wanted a radical change in his life!
