DAILY GUIDE 11 JANUARY 2024 OUTLINE BELOW:
Jesus offers the Samaritan woman and us living water. Everyone who drinks this water will never thirst again (vs.13-14). The woman asked for this living water which Jesus had promised to give her if she asked for it. What is this living water? (See Jeremiah 2:13; 17:13; John 7:37-39).
In this text, we see Jesus Himself as that Living Water that can quench both our physical and spiritual thirst. Jesus changes the conversation with the woman from physical to spiritual needs by asking her to go and get her husband. Jesus exposed her wayward past and the lie in which she currently lives, thus revealing the sin and shame in her life.
Jesus knows everything about us. He knows about our aches, frustrations, and failures. What did Jesus teach the woman about true worship from their conversation (vs.19-24)? Having connected with her needs, Jesus revealed Himself to her as the Messiah (vs.25-26). “I that speak with you I am He” (v.26).
In vs.29 the woman thereafter acknowledged Jesus as Messiah, (the Anointed One or the Chosen One). She abandoned her water pot, returned to the city, and proclaimed that she had met the Christ.
Practice/Word Application
So what? Receiving Jesus Christ into our lives brings spiritual washing and refreshment. We receive a new life that is different from our old life of sin and frustration. Thank Him for His cleansing power.
