Today’s Reading
1 John 4:13-18
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. – 1 John 4:18 (NIV)
Today’s Message
I served as a pastor in the village of Donetsk, Ukraine. Our street was at the edge of the village, and we could see the front line of the war from our window. Opposing troops were stationed nearby — just over 300 yards away. A woman who lived on our street used to visit our church, but things changed when the war started in 2014.
The village was heavily shelled, and people were terrified. This woman was shocked by the explosions and was afraid of every loud noise, even a knock on the gate. She would crawl under the table and refuse to come out.
Neighbors managed to get her to go with them to our church meeting. We prayed for her and told her about the love of God. It wasn’t long before she started to smile. A great change took place in her life. She told us, “Now I have peace in my heart because I know that God loves me.
During bombings I can praise my God. I can even sleep peacefully at night.” No matter our circumstances, we can trust in God’s promise to watch over us, and we can experience true peace through Jesus Christ.
Today’s Prayer
Heavenly Father, help us to find peace, even in terrifying situations, and to experience your love. Amen.
Thought for the Day
In every situation, God’s love will sustain me.
