Jesus said to [the Samaritan woman], “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.” – John 4:13-14 (NRSVUE)
I bought a succulent for my weekly Bible study group to show my appreciation for all that I am learning about God’s word and applying it to my daily life. We keep the plant on a bookshelf in the classroom where we meet.
The succulent also serves as a reminder of our dependence on God. It depends on the water it is given, and it stores the water in its stems to be used as needed until the next watering.
Isn’t that like what we do with scripture? When we regularly spend time studying the Bible, we are sustained by the word of God. If we are wise, we store up God’s word to cling to in any circumstance.
God is always present to quench our spiritual thirst. When we cling to God and God’s word, we are able to rely on God in challenging times and praise God in good times.
Thought for the Day
I will store up God’s word to help me in spiritually dry times.
