Read The Upper Room Devotional 27th May 2025 written by Jun Park (Gyeonggi-do, South Korea)
TOPIC:Â Made with Love
Today’s Reading
1 Timothy 4:1-6
Everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. – 1 Timothy 4:4-5 (NIV)
In Korea, all men must serve a compulsory period as soldiers in the army. I wanted to go to military school to become an officer, but I couldn’t pass the entrance exam. I even retook the exam, but my score was still not high enough. Reluctantly, I entered a regular university, feeling frustrated and guilty for not performing well enough on the exam. Rather than studying, I worked hard to earn money and be a good son.
Then my turn for military duty came, and I became an enlisted soldier. During my time in the military, I met Jesus and was baptized. I learned about God who loves me despite my flaws, and the words of 1 Timothy 4:4 comforted me, releasing me from my feelings of guilt and shame.
When I went back to school, I was able to focus on my studies, and my grades improved rapidly. I was able to accomplish my academic dreams. We all are always loved by God and are never alone. God has now given me a new mission: to make the world better with the knowledge I have. Anyone, for any reason, can experience frustration and guilt, but God offers us a way to overcome these feelings through prayer and focusing on the promise of God’s great love for us.
Today’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven, comfort us in our suffering and pain. Help us to let go of negative thoughts so that we can serve you well. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Thought for the Day
When doubts arise, I will remember that God loves me.
