Today’s Reading
Psalm 19:1-9
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. – Psalm 19:1 (NIV)
For health reasons, I was told to begin an exercise regimen. The busyness of my daily schedule made this difficult. So after putting my children to bed for the night, I began to take evening walks. I made it a habit to listen to praise music or sermons during these walks, but it was also a good time to talk to God.
Each night along my walk I see the brilliance of the stars and moon reflected on the sea. The clouds and the sound of the waves and wind are a wordless language that astounds me — a nocturnal creation that brings me to tears. All this wonder reminds me of the constant presence of God the Creator, especially in the darkest nights of my life.
Even in the busyness of our days, we can develop a good habit of reflection and quiet contemplation of God’s creation. If we pay attention, we can perceive God’s message to us through creation.
Today’s Prayer
Holy One, open our eyes to see the work of your hands, and open our ears to hear you through the wonder that is your creation. Amen.
Thought for the Day
God speaks to me through creation.
Prayer Focus
To notice God’s presence in creation
