THE UPPER ROOM DEVOTIONAL 15TH JUNE 2025, SUNDAY MESSAGE
Read The Upper Room Devotional 15 June 2025 written by Sarah Schwerin (Florida, USA)
TOPIC: Red Scribbles
Today’s Reading
John 5:24-30
Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.” – John 5:19 (NIV)
My study Bible is filled with neatly underlined scripture passages, circled cross-references, and handwritten notes in the margins. Interrupting these structured annotations are stray scribbles in red marker. I suspect my son added them when he was a toddler. He was doing what he saw his father doing.
Today’s scripture says Jesus did what he saw his Father doing too. He did this out of reverent submission and obedience to accomplish his Father’s will while also setting an example for us. To be a follower of Jesus, we must do what Jesus did. This involves obeying his commands (see Jn. 14:15), being doers of his word (see Jas. 1:22), and pouring what we’ve learned into others (see Matt. 28:18-20).
With Jesus as our example, we can continue to grow in faith and action as we imitate our Savior. How wonderful that we have a model in Jesus!
Today’s Prayer
Dear Father in heaven, help us do what Jesus did, following his example so that we may glorify you. Amen.
Thought for the Day
Today and every day I will aspire to follow Jesus’ example.
