Read The Upper Room Devotional 12 June 2025 written by Arlene Timber-Henry (St. Maarten)
TOPIC: We Are God’s Children
Today’s Reading
Romans 8:35-39
“I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” – 2 Corinthians 6:18 (NIV)
Growing up, I was never very close with God. I attended church with my family, but I felt I sinned too much for God to love me. Feeling as if I was not good enough led me even further away from God. Sometimes I had baseball on Sundays, and without hesitation I chose baseball over church. Then I began skipping church, even if I did not have baseball. At that point, God was not in my life at all.
One night I broke down in tears because I realized that I needed God. I felt far away from God, and it was changing how I acted toward friends and family. So I prayed and asked God for forgiveness. I gave my life to Christ. Now I understand that no amount of sin could make God not love me.
God loves us so much that God sent Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. God loves us so much that we are called God’s children. God is my Father, and nothing that I do can change that. God loves every single one of us because we are God’s children.
Today’s Prayer
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your love for us. Help us to love ourselves as you love us, especially when we feel that we are not good enough. Amen.
Thought for the Day
Nothing can separate me from God’s love.
Prayer Focus
Those who feel they are not good enough
