TODAY’S READING
Exodus 25:8-30

The Upper Room 7th August 2022 Daily Devotional MESSAGE

Make this tabernacle and all its furnishings exactly like the pattern I will show you. – Exodus 25:9 (NIV)

I couldn’t imagine how the tabernacle looked by simply reading the instructions God gave Moses in the book of Exodus. But after seeing a life-size reproduction of the tabernacle I understood how the frame, coverings, and curtains fit together. Seeing a model helped me understand the instructions God gave Moses.

In the same way, seeing real-life examples of Jesus’ parables helps me understand his teachings. I see the tenacity of the persistent widow (see Lk. 18:1-8) lived out in a small group as I hear a parent pray for a wayward child year after year. I see the compassion of the good Samaritan (see Lk. 10:30-37) lived out in the care local ministries offer to those who need food or shelter.

And when I personally become involved in service activities, I gain even deeper understanding. Then I feel blessed for being a blessing. That’s why I contribute to ministries that help people around the world and why I teach, lead, and work to reach my community through my local church. By seeing, we understand. And through serving, we experience and show others what scripture means.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for the many blessings you have given us. Help us to bless others by sharing our faith with them and caring for them. Amen.

How might I serve as an example of Jesus’ teachings today?
