THE UPPER ROOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL 15 JUNE 2024, SATURDAY MESSAGE
TOPIC: A Good Father
TODAY’S READING
1 John 3:1-3
Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. – Luke 12:32 (NRSVUE)
TODAY’S MESSAGE
It has been well over a year since I’ve seen my father. Since my parents’ divorce when I was young, he has drifted further and further from me and my brother. My mom remarried, but through most of my elementary school years, I had no father figure in my life. Although I now have a wonderful stepfather, the wounds remain. I don’t trust easily. My biological father was rarely true to his word, and I learned early on not to rely on what he promised. I saw him only when a visit was convenient for him. Eventually, he gave up his right to visitation.
I grew apathetic toward my earthly father some time ago, and I recently realized I had done the same toward my heavenly Father as well. But God is greater than flawed humans. God hasn’t missed a moment of my life and wants to be a part of it all the time. I was wrong to associate the pain caused by my father with my heavenly Father. God loves unconditionally and cares for us every second.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for watching over us and wanting to be a part of our lives. Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
