The Upper Room Daily Devotional 13 August 2022 MESSAGE

I had made many visits to various practitioners for my back pain, but nothing was working. This time, the doctor pointed out that while sitting on the exam table, I was slumping over. He told me this was part of the problem, and that if I had poor posture all day, I would never get better.

I couldn’t instantly fix 30 years of bad posture, but I resolved to try. I monitored my posture throughout the day, while working at my desk, cooking, and walking. Week by week, my back pain decreased. It really was that simple! Physical therapy, massages, and medication didn’t help me, but maintaining good posture made all the difference. After a month, most of my back pain was gone.

Just as I needed to focus on my posture throughout the day to strengthen my back, what if we all focused on God and scripture throughout the day to strengthen our faith? We can memorize a verse and recite it in our minds. We can talk to God about what is going on and what we are struggling with. Scripture is always available, and God is ready to talk whenever we want to.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, help us to remember that you are our source of life and that we will be rejuvenated if we stay connected to you throughout the day. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
How can I focus on God and pray more throughout the day?

PRAYER FOCUS
People suffering from back pain
