THE UPPER ROOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL 1 JUNE 2024, SATURDAY MESSAGE
TOPIC: Threads of Reconciliation
TODAY’S READING
Romans 8:12-18
Those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. – Romans 8:14 (NIV)
TODAY’S MESSAGE
One afternoon while I waited for a physical therapy session, I took out the blue crochet piece I was working on. A few days earlier, the cat had started playing with it and made a mess of it. I weighed my options: cut it apart, or try to work it out since it was almost finished. After a few minutes of staring at it, I asked God for wisdom. Slowly, I began to see a way to salvage it. I untangled it in half an hour and started crocheting.
I continued praying after I untangled it, asking God what lesson I could learn from this. God led me to think about what various conflicts can teach us. Just as I needed time to figure out how to unravel the crochet piece, we need time to pray before making decisions about problems that seem insurmountable. However, our habits and general busyness often lead us to make decisions without thinking. Facing a problem or conflict, no matter how difficult, requires us to set aside time to pray and listen to God’s voice.
Today’s scripture reading reminds us that we are children of God, and God always works for our good to help us resolve the problems and conflicts of our lives.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Thank you for your infinite love, O God. Help us to learn something as we work toward reconciliation. Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
I will seek God’s counsel to guide me through difficult situations.
