Sharing Blessings

TODAY’S READING
1 Corinthians 9:19-23
KEY VERSE: Paul wrote, “I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.” – 1 Corinthians 9:23 (NIV)
I began visiting a young woman who lived in a poor, run-down part of town. She had been ill and in bed for days, and she did not have anyone to take care of her. Every time I visited, she asked me to sing a song and read the Bible to her.
On each visit, she listened quietly and never spoke. Then one day she whispered to me, “Thank you for treating me like a human being. I can feel the love of Jesus this week. Please ask him to receive me as his daughter. I trust that Jesus is my savior, and I want to receive him before I go home. Please ask Jesus to bring me to my eternal home in heaven.”
Not long after praying, she went home to her Father in heaven. The apostle Paul wrote that he wanted to make himself a slave to everyone even though he was free. He did this for the sake of the gospel and so shared in its blessings. Jesus wants us to use our great potential as a blessing for many people, not for our own sake but for the sake of the gospel.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank you for opportunities to serve you and to show your love to others. Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
By humbling myself to serve others, I can be God’s blessing to many.
