The Upper Room 18 February 2022 Devotional MESSAGE
“One, two, three, four. . . .” As the test administrator counted aloud my incorrect answers, I knew that I had failed the provisional driver’s license exam. I had done so much in preparation for the exam. I had thoroughly studied the learner’s license handbook. I had taken pictures to go on my license, and I had paid for the exam. Where did I go wrong? I kept asking myself.
I dragged my feet on the way to tell my parents. I decided that I was so hurt that I would not retake the test any time soon. It took me a year before I decided to try again. During that time I came across this verse: “For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease” (Job 14:7, KJV). I realized there was hope. I had not passed before, but I could try again. I retook the exam, and by the grace of God, I passed!

We all face situations or seasons that make us lose hope. Sometimes we try our best, and it is not enough. But God is forever ready to help us keep going. When we want to give up, let us surrender our situation to God with hope that God will see us through.
TODAY’S PRAYER
God of hope, we call upon your name and your help in our times of need. When we want to give up, help us to keep going. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
