The Upper Room 17th December 2021 Daily Devotional Message
Years after Jesus’ death, John of Patmos received an incredible vision. He saw the heavenly throne room, the Lamb of God, the great communion of saints, and something that I tend to overlook: There, in the throne room of God, in the hands of the elders, were golden bowls full of prayers. Rising up like incense before the throne of God are the prayers of God’s people.
Every petition, every longing and deep desire, every intercession, every cry, every prayer ever offered is floating like incense before God’s throne. Whenever I feel discouraged, as though something is amiss in my life, I remember this image from Revelation and imagine my prayer in the throne room of God. God deeply and intimately cares for us and wants us to live full and abundant lives. And even though we may not always see God working, we can trust that our prayers rise before God and that they will be answered in God’s way and God’s timing — for our good and God’s glory.
