The Upper Room 14 March 2022 Daily Devotional MESSAGE
One day I decided to turn my small pieces of leftover soap bars into one big bar of soap that would be usable. I cut the pieces smaller and melted them down, and then I worked to mold the soap into a usable shape. Eventually it seemed to be nice and round; but after letting it dry for 24 hours, many lumps and bumps became visible. However, as I use the soap, the bumps are slowly smoothing out, and the soap is becoming more rounded and easier to use.
This reminds me of how the Holy Spirit works with me, a flawed human being. Very patiently the Holy Spirit works to smooth out all the parts of me that are not glorifying to God — a lifelong process that ensures that I continue to serve God in meaningful ways.
Sometimes this process can be painful or drawn out, but I know that God knows what is best. I only have to be willing to let the Holy Spirit shape me to be more like Jesus Christ.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Loving God, help us to embrace your shaping of us so that we can show your love, patience, and long-suffering to others. Amen.
