The Upper Room 1 December 2021 Daily Devotional Message
I work in Kansas, which is a long way from my home in south-central Pennsylvania. After spending a wonderful week at home over Christmas with family and friends, I couldn’t sleep the night before I was to return to Kansas. I felt anxious about leaving my family and being alone again in Kansas, as well as what the flight back would be like. As I lay awake in bed worrying, I decided to take comfort in God’s word by reading that day’s devotional in The Upper Room. The quoted scripture was from Deuteronomy: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Those words spoke directly to my soul. I felt better knowing that no matter what the plane ride or future held for me, God would always be with me.
I know I will miss being with my wife and family when I am not physically with them. But I can take comfort in knowing that God is always with me, will never forsake me, and will give me the strength I need to make it through until I can be home again.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Loving God, we thank you for your promise always to be with us. In our times of anxiety, help us to reach out to you and receive your peace. Amen.

God will comfort me during any time of uncertainty.
