6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.
7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?
8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:
9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

In our Focal Scripture, the vinedresser offered to dig around the fig tree, and to dung it. Ordinarily, vinedressers serve to prune the vine; they cut off the needless branches in order to have the vine grow more productively. This vinedresser had a responsibility to discern what to remove. He also chose to add dung to the fig tree. He saw what was missing and what was needed. He discerned what needed to be added.
Friend, as you seek to grow to higher levels, you just might need to always discern what is missing and what needs to be cut off. Growth demands that at every juncture, you must discern what has served its purpose in your life and needs to be cut off. Growth demands that you discern the relationships that have to be cut off. Growth demands that you discern the commitments that need to end. Growth demands a cutting off.
The vinedresser was not only there to cut things off. He was also there to bring dung in. He was there to supply what was missing. Greatness may not come your way until you are intentional to bring in what is missing in your life. You may need to be intentional to bring in the right relationships, right attitudes, right habits, right prayers, right communication skills, right behaviour, right perspectives, right core values, right ideas, etc.
If you make the mistake of not adding what is missing, or taking off what has outlived its purpose, you just might be on the highway that leads to stagnation and retrogression. If you are unable to discern what is missing and what needs to be taken off, you just might arrive at the future totally unfit for the future you arrived at. If you fail to discern what needs to leave and what needs to enter, you just might remain unfruitful much longer.
Ask the Lord to open your eyes to see the places where changes are needed in your life. Be courageous enough to discard what is no longer needed, and take on what is now needed.
Ephesians 5: 15 says: “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,”
DECLARATION: My eyes are open to see and discern what needs to be cut off and what needs to come in, in Jesus’ name!
