TOPIC: Away From The Old

FOCUS: “18. And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house. 19. And this woman’s child died in the night; because she overlaid it.” (1 Kings 3: 18-19)

Streams of Joy Devotional for 20th August 2023 MESSAGE

The tragedy of our Focal Scripture is the fact that the two women were both harlots. Being harlots did not stop them from conceiving. They were about to receive new things, but their personalities were antithetical to the new thing they sought to receive. They sought to receive new systems with old structures. They sought to receive new results with old mindsets. They had old identities but sought to handle new blessings.

Friend, you may be preparing yourself for tears of pain and shame if you seek to receive new blessings with old identities. You will not be able to nurture the new things that God wants to put in your hands if you continue to live in your old ways. The new things that God is putting in your hands may not last if you retain your old errors, old mistakes, negative lifestyles, old expired relationships, old mentalities, old mindsets, etc.

These two women were able to conceive despite their old natures; grace seemed to allow them to bring forth their new, but in a matter of time, one lost her portion while the other had her portion in needless contention. They could not sustain what grace made available to them. If you remain in the old ways that God has been pushing you to leave, you may indeed receive the new by grace, but you may not be able to sustain it.

As God brings new things to you, look inwards and discover the old ways you need to walk away from. As God causes new opportunities, new helpers, new resources, new results, new heights, etc. to come your way, it is not a validation of your old ways, but it is your chance to adapt to the new season that God is causing to come your way. As God repositions you by bringing the new to you, do not make the mistake of remaining old.

Don’t destroy or suffocate your new season with your old ways. Discover the old that needs to be put away, and put it away speedily.

Luke 5: 37-38 says: “37. And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish. 38. But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.”

DECLARATION: I will not receive new things with my old ways, in Jesus’ name!
