TOPIC: Get the Substance
FOCUS SCRIPTURE: “1. Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, 2. Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.” (Matthew 2: 1-2)
Streams of Joy Devotional 24th December 2022 MESSAGE
It is instructive to observe that the wise men not only saw the star; they took it a step further to go to Jerusalem and see the new king that had been born. They were not lost in the frenzy of seeing a star of a new born king; they went further to seek the evidence of the star they saw. They did not stop at seeing the sign; they went after the substance behind the sign. They were not just interested in the star; they wanted to see the evidence.
Friend, don’t celebrate signs; press towards results. Go beyond the signs of progress and insist on seeing the evidence of progress. Go beyond the signs of good things to come, and actually pray out the good things that you have been expecting. Go beyond preliminary signs of the results you seek and stay on the grind until your results emerge. Don’t stop at seeing the star; go all the way to Jerusalem till you see the ‘king’.
The wise men saw the star, but they knew there was more behind the star; they understood there was a new king beyond the star they saw. The signs did not take their eyes away from the expected evidence. Don’t allow the ‘star’ to make you lose sight of the ‘new born king’. Don’t allow the positive signs you see to make you lose sight of the very essence of the sign, which is evidence. Don’t even stop praying because you saw a sign.
Some other people may have seen the same star that the wise men saw, and stopped at admiring the star; but the wise men saw a star and still made a move. They saw the star and they pressed towards the substance. If you make the mistake of focusing on the star, you will most certainly miss the substance. Sometimes, what you may have been calling a result, is just a sign. Even the greatness you have attained is a sign of greater things.
Remember, don’t stop at the sign. The sign is not your destination. There is more to come. Go after your evidence.
Philippians 3: 14 says: “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
DECLARATION: I look beyond the ‘star’; I press towards my evidence, in Jesus’ name!
