SCRIPTURE READING: John 5: 1-14 (KJV)
1 After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.
3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.
11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
12 Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?
13 And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.
14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
FOCUS VERSE:
“The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.” (John 5: 7)
Streams of Joy Daily Devotional 10th August 2025 MESSAGE:
In our Focal Scripture, whilst telling the tale of why he had been at the pool without getting healed, the man at the pool told Jesus about how he had no man to put him in the pool when the water was stirred. This man was within the precincts of the pool. He was close to what he desired, but he never carried his evidence. He was perpetually close to his miracle, but never got the miracle. He always came close, but never got what he wanted.
Friend, hear me as I hear the Lord: the season of being close to your portion and never getting it, is over. The season of doing your best perpetually to hit your target but never hitting it, is over. The season of being close to your promised land without ever entering into it, is over. The season of seeing the opportunities you desire without ever getting same, is over. The season of coming close to your desires without getting them, is over.
Notice that while that man was at the pool of Bethesda, Jesus came to where he was. His healing came to where he was. What he desired came to where he was. What he wanted came to where he was. He was not only close to his healing; he also got it. Jesus changed the cycle of coming close but never getting it. Hear me as I hear the Lord: the season of being close without getting it, is over. The season of being close, yet emptyhanded, is over.
Jesus is closer to you than whatever ‘pool’ you want to step into. Jesus is closer than the results you seek. Jesus is closer than that which you are chasing after. Hear me as I hear the Lord: for whatever the Lord brings you close to, you shall have your results. For whatever the Lord causes you to see at close range, you will be a partaker. For whatever the Lord causes to come close to you, you will carry it with your own hands.
No longer shall it be said that you came close and didn’t get your portion. No longer shall it be said that you got to the ‘pool’ without stepping in. The Lord is taking you to your results.
Obadiah 1: 17 says: “But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.”
DECLARATION: I will come close, and I will step in, in Jesus’ name!
