Streams of Joy Daily Devotional 14 July 2024 (Sunday) Message

SCRIPTURE READING: 1 Samuel 17: 1-53
FOCUS VERSE: “And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.” (1 Samuel 17: 43)
It is important to observe that what Goliath did in his confrontation with the armies of Israel, was to take their attention away from the battle they needed to fight. Goliath made the armies of Israel to focus on him. He broke their focus away from fighting army against army; and he made them listen to and focus on one giant. Goliath’s strategy was to break the focus of Israel’s army. Goliath’s strategy was to make them lose focus.
Friend, the strategy of the enemy is to break your focus. The goal of the enemy is to make you lose focus. The goal of the enemy is to take your eyes away from where it ought to be and put it where it ought not to be. The goal of the enemy is to make you lose sight of what God wants you to achieve or become, so that you can at least be less than you were destined to be. The goal of the enemy is to take your eyes away from what truly matters.
Today, put your eyes on Him who sits on the throne. Put your eyes on the help that comes from above. Put your eyes on the Owner of the whole universe. Put your eyes on the One who made the earth with the word of His Power. Put your eyes on He that is the Beginning and the End. Put your eyes on the God that is able to do what no man can do. Put your eyes on the ability of God that is able to give you results beyond your capacity.
As you strive to be focused, also strive to keep away from whatever breaks your focus. Be careful with relationships that keep your eyes away from your goals. Be careful not to indulge in, or engage in relationships that cause you to miss the mark. Be careful to stay away from every mental construct that slows you down and corrupts your commitment to your assignment. Do away with every focus that de-focuses your life.
That voice that wants you to lose focus is ultimately working hard to stop you from defeating your ‘Goliath’. Don’t allow the enemy to break your focus. Don’t allow anything to take your eyes away from what matters most.
Colossians 3: 2 says: “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
DECLARATION: My focus will not be broken; my eyes are fixed on the mark, in Jesus’ name!
