Streams of Joy Daily Devotional 13 July 2024 (Saturday) Message
TOPIC: Hide Your Stones
SCRIPTURE READING: 1 Samuel 17: 1-53
FOCUS VERSE: “And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.” (1 Samuel 17: 43)
In our Focal Scripture, Goliath queried David for coming against him with staves (sticks). David had picked five smooth stones from the brook, and he put the five stones in his bag (see vs. 40). Goliath saw the stick in the hand of David, but had no idea that there were stones waiting for his forehead. Goliath could see the stick, but he didn’t see the stones that were kept away from his view. David hid the stones until he was ready to fire.
Friend, there is wisdom in hiding your stones. There is wisdom in keeping undercover, that which is meant to bring your success. Until you are ready to bring down Goliath, keep your strategy to yourself. Keep your advantage to yourself. Keep the capacity you have acquired that should make a difference, a secret. Don’t go to the rooftop to announce that you have stones that can bring down Goliath. Don’t reveal your stones too soon.
If Goliath knew that David had stones in the bag which could bring him down, he wouldn’t be so naïve to stand and wait to be brought down. The surprise element of David’s stones, ensured that Goliath did not have a chance to dodge the stones. If you keep announcing your stones, spoilers will find an advantage and occasion to mess things up for you. If you keep announcing what you should hide, you may miss the mark.
Don’t get stones and start letting everyone know that you have stones. Don’t get an idea that should move you forward and start to announce it to everyone. If God has opened your eyes to see the next steps to take in order to rise higher and higher, it is not for every ear. If God has planted a vision in your mind, it is not for everyone to listen to. Your stones are for a season, and be careful to discern when it is right to bring them out.
Know when to hide your stone, and when to bring it forth. Know when to keep things a secret, and know when to let the cat out of the bag.
Proverbs 21: 23 says: “Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.”
DECLARATION: I receive wisdom to hide my stones until it is time to bring them forth, in Jesus’ name!
