Streams of Joy 9th September 2024 MESSAGE
In our Focal Scripture, the father of the prodigal son ordered his servants to bring forth the best robe and put same on his son who had just returned. In bible times, robes (garments) were symbolic of identity. People could literally be identified based on what they wore. So, the father ordered for the identity of his son to be restored. The prodigal son may have lost his identity in the midst of all he went through, but his father restored his identity.
Friend, in all you are doing, never lose your identity. Don’t lose your identity in Christ. Don’t lose the identity of who God has made you to become. Don’t lose your identity that is in line with your core values. Don’t come to a point where people can no longer recognize you for who you once claimed to be. Don’t lose the identity of greatness and royalty that heaven bestowed on you. Don’t lose the identity of Jesus’ finished work.
The prodigal son had been so long in the far country, deprived of comfort and greatness, and was simply no longer looking like himself until his father ordered that the robe be put on him. In the absence of his new robe, everyone could treat him wrongly, until his identity was restored. Guard your identity in Christ jealously. Don’t let the enemy make you believe that you are less than Jesus already made you to become.
Every attack on your identity is an attempt to make you become less than God made you. Every attack on your identity is a subtle invitation to take on another identity that God did not give you. Every attack on your identity is an attack on your spirituality. Every attack on your identity is a call for destiny reduction. Every attack on your identity is a call for you to be less, not more. An attack on your identity is an exchange in waiting.
No matter what happens, don’t make a mess of your identity in Christ. Never forget what God told you about yourself.
1 Peter 2: 9 says: “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”
DECLARATION: I won’t lose my identity in Christ, in Jesus’ name!
