Streams of Joy 4th May 2025 Devotional (Sunday) Message
TOPIC: Gird Your Loins
SCRIPTURE READING: 1 KINGS 18: 40-46
FOCUS VERSE: “And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.” (1 Kings 18: 46)
MESSAGE:
Our Focal Scripture speaks of how the hand of the Lord was upon Elijah, and he girded up his loins, and ran to Jezreel. The hand of the Lord was upon Elijah, but he also needed to gird up his loins. To gird one’s loins is to tuck in the flowing garments into a girdle worn at the waist, in order to make way for speedy movements. To gird one’s loins is to make room for speed. So, though the hand of the Lord was on him, Elijah made room for speed.
Friend, even when the hand of the Lord is upon you, be intentional to make room for more speed in destiny. You will not be at your very best if you do not intentionally tuck in your ‘flowing garments’. You may not be the best you can be, if you fail to put in the hard work that is required. You may not make as much progress as heaven destined for you, if you do not intentionally make the needed efforts.
In bible times, people wore flowing garments, which needed to be tucked in if there was going to be a switch to fast paced movements. So, Elijah needed to make the change that will enable him run ahead of Ahab into Jezreel. Elijah needed to change his posture to be able to accomplish what the hand of the Lord upon him was poised to deliver. You will frustrate the grace of God upon you if you fail to change your posture in line with what God wants to make happen in and through you.
Now is the time to gird your loins. Now is the time to work on your productivity. Now is the time to put away laziness and distractions. Now is the time to tighten your focus. Now is the time to start acting and living in line with the greatness that heaven wants to make happen through you. Now is the time to change your disposition and posture to align with your tomorrow. Now is the time to act like one who truly wishes to overtake Ahab.
The hand of the Lord will empower you to overtake Ahab, but the hand of the Lord will not tuck in your flowing garments for you. Make the changes that will give the hand of the Lord full expression in your life.
1 Corinthians 10: 23 says: “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.”
DECLARATION: I gird up my loins; I make changes that will cause a free flow of God’s grace in me, in Jesus’ name!
