SCRIPTURE READING: 2 Kings 9
“Then take the box of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, Thus saith the LORD, I have anointed thee king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and tarry not.” (2 Kings 9: 3)
In our Focal Scripture, Elisha mandated the son of the prophet who was sent to anoint Jehu, to flee immediately after carrying out the assignment of anointing Jehu. The son of the prophet was not even permitted to sit back and glory in the assignment he was about to perform. The instruction of Elisha was for him to exit the place of his assignment the very moment he was done with the assignment, and he was even asked to flee.
Friend, here is your best template for success in 2025: as you complete your assignment, don’t stay back to congratulate yourself endlessly; simply be done and move on to the next thing on heaven’s agenda for you. As you finish with what God asked you to do, move on to the next assignment and make no mistake about remaining stuck where you should leave. Break away from your achievements as soon as you make them.
The instruction was for the son of the prophet to flee and not tarry. He was not permitted to waste any time in the place where he completed his assignment. You will be wasting your destiny if you make the mistake of wasting precious time savoring what you have done rather than pressing on to your next assignment. You will be wasting productive time if you allow your achievement to become occasion for you to rest on your oars.
Make up your mind to press on to new things rather than dwell in the euphoria of what you have already done. Be intentional to keep your eyes on your next assignment rather than spend all your time celebrating your last assignment. Be intentional to do more ahead of you rather than look back behind you. Be intentional to not waste your tomorrow celebrating what you achieved in your yesterday.
It’s time for the new; and it is time to be done with the old. Leave the old behind, and press on to the new.
Philippians 3: 13 says: “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,”
TODAY’S DECLARATION: I refuse to be distracted by old achievements; I press on to the new, in Jesus’ name!
