Streams of Joy 20th May 2025 Devotional (Tuesday) Message
TOPIC: Don’t Sleep
SCRIPTURE READING: Judges 16: 1-31
MEMORY VERSE
“Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.” (Ephesians 5: 14)
FOCUS VERSE:
“19. And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him. 20. And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.” (Judges 16: 19-20)
Our Focal Scripture speaks of that moment when Samson slept off on the laps of Delilah, and had the seven locks on his head shaved off. Samson revealed the source of his strength, and Delilah made him sleep in that compromising position that positioned him for the shaving of the seven locks on his head. Samson took the seven locks on his head to the laps of a woman, and she helped him shave it off and his strength departed.
Friend, if there are seven locks on your head, then be intentional to stay away from the laps of Delilah. If God has positioned greatness on your head, then do yourself the favour of not positioning yourself in the line of destruction. Don’t make the mistake of positioning yourself amongst those who have no regards for the seven locks on your head. Don’t position yourself amongst those who don’t regard your greatness.
After Delilah decimated the seven locks on the head of Samson, she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him. Even before the lords of the Philistines came against him, Samson had become ordinary. Beware of encounters that cause you to become ordinary. Beware of people with whom you spend time and end up leaking strength. Be careful of those who make you become like any other man. Beware of the laps of Delilah.
Samson believed he could still go out as always, and shake himself and decimate the Philistines, but he had no idea that the Lord had left him. The laps of your Delilah have come to disconnect you from God. Notice that Jesus paid the price so that you can be reconciled to God. Even if you got it wrong at some point, the mercies of God abound, and are enough to save you from the divine disconnection that your ‘Delilah’ came to instigate.
This is not that season to lose what heaven has put on you because of your affinity for Delilah’s that have no regard for your greatness. Don’t cast your pearls to dogs.
DECLARATION:
I refuse to be ordinary, like every other man; I choose to stand out in destiny, in Jesus’ name!
