SCRIPTURE: For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. LUKE 7:8.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: To be too big to follow is to be too small to lead.
From our anchor scripture, it is confirmed that every destiny that rose to greatness in Scripture and in history did so on the foundation of submission.
The subject of submission to authority is one of the most significant struggles of humanity. Many people resist submission. Some wives resist the authority of their husbands; workers resist their superiors; some church members resist pastors; and some pastors even resist the spiritual authority over their lives. But it is crucial note that no one can be successful as a leader who has not first been successful as a follower. To be too big to follow is to be too small to lead.
Now, what is submission to authority?
1. Submission is the willingness to be guided, instructed, corrected, and directed by a superior authority.
2. Submission is submerging one’s wisdom and expertise into that of a higher authority for a bigger outcome.
There are Biblical examples of those who rose to the top at the frequency of submission to authority.
1. Joseph (Genesis 39:3–6; 39:21–23; 40:2–4). Joseph submitted to Potiphar, serving faithfully until he was made overseer. In prison, he submitted again and was put in charge of the other prisoners. When he interpreted Pharaoh’s dream, he still spoke with humility, acknowledging God as the Source. His submission made him dependable and trustworthy, paving the way for his elevation to the throne.
2. Esther (Esther 2:15–20). The name, Esther in Scripture remains a reference point as far as submission to authority is concerned. Even after becoming queen, she still obeyed Mordecai as she did when she lived under his roof. Queen Vashti lost her throne through rebellion, but Esther gained it through submission. Submission preserved her destiny and made her a deliverer of her generation.
Beloved, arrogance aborts destiny; greatness is rooted in humility. Before Joshua commanded armies, he served Moses. So, until your followership is confirmed and certified, your leadership is not guaranteed.
Remember This: To be too big to follow is to be too small to lead.
