TOPIC: The Spirituality of Thanksgiving

SCRIPTURE: It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night.
PSALM 92:1-2.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Thanksgiving is a confirmation of your spirituality; you are spiritual to the extent that you appreciate God.
Our anchor Scripture above has established that it is a good thing to give thanks both to God and men. The implication of this is that the attitude of ingratitude is a bad attitude of life.
Now, what does thanksgiving imply? What does it communicate? Thanksgiving implies spirituality.
Thanksgiving is not just physical; it is also a spiritual virtue. Thanksgiving implies spirituality; it communicates spirituality. Spiritual people are thanks-givers. Spiritual people are thankful people.
Isaiah 43:21 says,
This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.
God is saying that He created you for the purpose of showing forth His praise to your world.
1 Peter 2:9 says,
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.
So, thanksgiving is a major component of spirituality. The truth is that thanksgiving is no less a spiritual action than prayer, the study of the Word, fasting, soul winning, giving, etc.
When you come around people who are deeply spiritual, that is, people who really know God, they are profusely appreciative and thankful. God has given me the privilege of being around such people. For example, when you come around people like Bishop David Oyedepo, Pastor E. A. Adeboye, you would experience the atmosphere of thanksgiving from their lives because thanksgiving is part of their spirituality.
Beloved, thanksgiving is a confirmation of your spirituality; you are spiritual to the extent that you appreciate God.
My counsel is, make thanksgiving a habit. Don’t withhold thanksgiving. Effortlessly release appreciation both to God and to men.
Remember this: Thanksgiving is a confirmation of your spirituality; you are spiritual to the extent that you appreciate God.
ASSIGNMENT:
1. Give priority attention to your spiritual life.
2. Embrace the attitude of gratitude through profuse thanksgiving.
PRAYER: Lord, I ask that You deliver me from the spell of ingratitude. I receive the grace to practice the spiritual virtue of thanksgiving from today henceforth, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
