Scripture Union Daily Guide Sunday 9 March 2025 Devotional Message
TOPIC: Israel’s wilderness experience, a lesson to the Church
OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, I pray that you sanctify my spirit, soul and body as I read your word in Jesus name.
SCRIPTURE: Numbers 21:1-20
Question(s) For Meditation:
► Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
► Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
As the people of Israel journeyed to the Promised Land, King Arad warred against them and took some of the people of Israel as prisoners. And the people of Israel made a vow to the Lord for His help for victory against their enemy-nation. The Lord heard them and granted them victory because they prayed according to the will of God and in obedience to the instructions He had already given them (Numbers 21:1-3; Exodus 23:23-24).
Read Numbers 21:4-6 to see the consequence of the peoples’ murmuring against God and His appointed leaders; it attracted God’s judgment of afflictions and death. But in Numbers 21:7-9, the people cried out to God through Moses in repentance and God directed Moses to make a bronze snake and hang it on a pole. Anyone bitten by a snake and looks unto it shall live. Refer to John 3:14-15 for what the bronze snake on the pole symbolizes in the New Testament. Anyone who believes that Jesus died on the cross for his or her sins, shall have eternal life.
Numbers 21:10-18 show how God miraculously provided a well of water for His people as they journeyed. There are miracles of God in the wilderness of life.

HYMN: Stand up, stand up for Jesus
1. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
Ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner,
It must not suffer loss.
From victory unto victory
His army shall He lead,
Till every foe is vanquished,
And Christ is Lord indeed.
2. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
The solemn watchword hear;
If while ye sleep He suffers,
Away with shame and fear;
Where’er ye meet with evil,
Within you or without,
Charge for the God of battles,
And put the foe to rout.
3. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
The trumpet call obey;
Forth to the mighty conflict,
In this His glorious day.
Ye that are brave now serve Him
Against unnumbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger,
And strength to strength oppose.
4. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
Stand in His strength alone;
The arm of flesh will fail you,
Ye dare not trust your own.
Put on the Gospel armor,
Each piece put on with prayer;
Where duty calls or danger,
Be never wanting there.
5. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
Each soldier to his post,
Close up the broken column,
And shout through all the host:
Make good the loss so heavy,
In those that still remain,
And prove to all around you
That death itself is gain.
6. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
The strife will not be long;
This day the noise of battle,
The next the victor’s song.
To him who overcometh
A crown of life shall be;
They with the King of Glory
Shall reign eternally.
Closing Prayer:
Lord, I thank you for your death on the cross for my sins.
