Scripture Union Daily Guide – Outline
Rebellion and jealousy may give birth to frustration and dissatisfaction. Korah, Dathan, and Abiram were no longer satisfied with their roles as Levites. They now decided to assume the role left for Aaron and the priests. Notice the grave consequences of their foolish action.
God warns the rebellious (Numbers 16:20-27). He is patient and long-suffering, ‘Not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance’ (2 Peter 3:9c). Note the plea of Moses (Numbers 16:22). The Israelites were warned to separate themselves from this rebellious group. We have no business associating with those rebelling against our God.
Notice it was Moses who specified the form of judgment Korah and his fellow rebels should suffer and God acceded to his specification to honour his servant. The same God who brought the Red Sea on Pharaoh and his army buried Korah and his group alive. Indeed, “It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31;Hebrews 12: 29).
Notice the consequence of Korah and his colleagues’ sin on their families (Numbers 16:31-33). Unfortunately, many children are still suffering the repercussions of their parents’ sins today. Mothers infect their children with AIDS while children suffer the effect of drug addiction right from the womb. What heritage are you passing on to your children?
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
CLOSING PRAYER: Pray for God’s mercy on many innocent souls who are suffering because of the evil actions of their national leaders.
