TOPIC: Why Should I Fear When Trouble Comes?

OPENING PRAYER: I open my heart to meditate on your word, teach me your ways oh Lord.

SCRIPTURE: Psalms 49:1-10

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 8: Is there any other Biblical passage that can help me understand this passage better?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 15 August 2023 Outline:

There are many reasons why a child of God should not fear when trouble comes. Mention some of them. The Lord is your refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1-2). God is your shield. He is your protector from danger (Psalm 27:1-2 NLT). God is your strength, your rock, your fortress, your salvation, your shield, your saving power, and your place of safety (Psalm 18:1-3). Read Psalm 91:1-13 in NLT to discover other very strong reasons why you should not fear troubles. Additionally, your life is hidden with Christ in God the Father (Colossians 3:3), and anyone who touches you, touches the apple of His eye (Zechariah 2:8, NIV).

However, anyone outside of Christ or ignorant of his position in Christ has many reasons to fear whenever trouble surfaces. For instance, the trouble may be bigger than you are. The troublemaker may be very rich and influential, and you can see that you have no chance at all (v.6). Since you have no Father to call on or you are ignorant of your inheritance and privileges in Christ, you fear and shake.

Practice/Word Application
