Today’s Daily Guide 7th May 2025 Reading By Scripture Union

TOPIC: The Law and the Promise

OPENING PRAYER: As I read through this passage dear Lord, let your word bring transformation to my life.

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: Galatians 3:15-25

QUESTION FOR MEDITATION:
► Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 7th May 2025 OUTLINE

What truth is Paul expounding in this passage? Galatians 3:15-18 contains the fourth of Paul’s arguments referred to yesterday. It is an argument from the fact that the covenant of promise was made long before the law. The law did not come to set aside the promises made to Abraham. Christ is the Seed, or Offspring, referred to in Galatians 3:16. Look up the quotation in Genesis 22:18. Paul’s emphasis is on the fact that salvation is in Christ alone.

However, the law was not purposeless. See Galatians 3:19-20 for its purpose. The promise to Abraham came directly from God (Genesis 12:1). How does this compare with the giving of the law? See Exodus 20:18-21.
The law is not opposed to the promises of God (Galatians 3:21), but it only makes us conscious of our sin and what we must do to please God.

It does not justify us before God. ‘We were imprisoned and guarded under the law until faith would be revealed’ (Galatians 3:23), when Christ appeared. Now that Christ has come and has died for us, we should no longer seek to hang on to the law. It has served its purpose fully (Galatians 3:25). Our justification is in Christ and in Him alone.

Meditation:
Reread the passage again and see how you would help the Galatians to see their position.

* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

CLOSING PRAYER:
Thank God for delivering you from the slavery of the law and sin.
