Scripture Union Daily Guide 7 January 2022 | SU Devotional Message
Remember the mission of Jesus as prophesied by Isaiah (refer to Wednesday’s note)? We see here the initial fulfilment of that mission – teaching, deliverance from evil spirits/demons and healing. Jesus is the saviour of man’s spirit, soul and body. It is worth noting that the man possessed of the devil was also worshipping in the synagogue. Until he met Jesus, he appeared to be a normal worshipper. He could even be a leader in the synagogue.
One wonders how many of such people we have in our churches who need the Lord’s deliverance from demon possession. How we need such all‐encompassing ministry in our churches today. Note the action that followed the healing and deliverance ministry of Jesus (v.42).
A time to meditate and re‐focus in prayer is essential for effective and sustained ministry. From vs.43‐44, we see that Jesus refused to allow momentary ministry success to derail his mission to preach the Good News of the Kingdom in other towns and villages. Hope you are not resting in your comfort zone when there are still souls to be won and unreached people everywhere?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
• Lord, help your Church to fulfil her ministry of teaching, deliverance and healing of our sick world.
