Scripture Union Daily Guide 6th July 2025 – OUTLINE
Attempts to add the law to the gospel has been a problem since the time of the first century Church (Acts 15:1-5). As we have seen, Paul addressed the same problem in his Epistle to the Galatians. It is possible that the same set of people who came down from Judea to Antioch (Acts 14:1), were the ones Paul referred to in Galatians 2:12. Do we have people, like “the Party of the Pharisee” in the church today (Acts 15:5)? What are some doctrinal controversies that people are peddling in your context?
Read Acts 15:6-11 again. What are the essential truths in Peter’s speech with regards to our salvation? The law is an unbearable burden (Acts 15:10) but salvation is by faith in Christ alone, no additives! It is God’s free gift for everyone, Jews and Gentiles alike (Acts 15:9, Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians 2:16). If we preach salvation through faith in Jesus plus anything else, our Christianity is resting on a faulty foundation. How does Acts 15:12 validate the correctness of the Gentiles’ faith in Christ?
And So
What do you preach when sharing the gospel with those who are yet to know Christ; Christ alone or Christ plus good works?

HYMN: He is coming again
1. Saved by grace, oh, wonderful story,
Jesus the Savior has come from on high;
Saved by grace, an heir to His glory,
I shall inherit it by and by.
Refrain
Saved by grace, oh, wonderful story,
Sing it o’er and over again;
Saved by grace, oh, tell of His glory;
Jesus is coming, coming again.
2. Saved by grace, and justified freely,
Jesus the Crucified rose from the grave;
Saved by grace, oh, marvelous dealing,
Life everlasting to me He gave.
3. Saved by grace, and sanctified thro’ Him,
Christ the Ascended now pleads for His own;
Saved by grace, I sing hallelujah!
I shall behold Him upon His throne.
4. Saved by grace, oh, blessèd salvation,
Christ the Redeemer is coming again;
Saved by grace, oh, glorious station,
Jesus is coming, He comes to reign.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for saving me, by your grace and mercy. Help me not to put an obstacle of the law on the way of others who want to come to Christ.
