Scripture Union Daily Guide 6th February 2025 – MESSAGE
Notice the very challenging statement Jesus made in Matthew 10:34. His message here highlights the difficult decisions that a Christian is often called upon to take almost daily. Sometimes they affect those who are closest and dearest to us – members of our families. If you choose to believe and follow Jesus for the rest of your life, you are set apart for selfless service to God as opposed to those who reject Him (Matthew 10:34-36).
While Jesus is not preaching hatred for one’s family because one becomes a Christian, He makes it clear that our commitment to Him makes us uphold values that are quite different from those of parents or siblings who may not have accepted the salvation He offers. Such total commitment to Christ (Matthew 10:37,38) makes a sharp difference. Also, read Mark 8:34. A lot of courage is required here, as one could be isolated, even hated (Matthew 10:39).
Note in Matthew 10:40-42 the benefits of identifying with Christ against all odds. Sometimes the Lord would use your consistent walk with Him to draw the same relations who hated you to Himself and grant them salvation.
