Opening Prayer
Lord, I pray that you lead me into your truth as I meditate on your word in Jesus name.
Scripture Reading
Hebrews 10:26-31
26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. 28 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”[a] and again, “The Lord will judge his people.”[b] 31 It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Question for Meditation
► Q5: Is there any warning for me to heed?
Scripture Union Daily Guide – 6 November 2025 OUTLINE
Does Hebrews 10:26-27 mean that we are doomed if we sin after conversion? No! All Christians sin accidentally in moments of weakness. Do the “deliberate” sins doom us to destruction? No! The sin under discussion in this passage is deliberately turning our back on Jesus – the sacrifice for our sins. It is rejecting Jesus, just as when the Israelites in the Old Testament rejected Jehovah for idolatry. God knows how to discern between good and evil, faithfulness and betrayal and He will bring all unfaithfulness to judgment (Hebrews 10:30-31; Deuteronomy 32:35-36).
We are warned that salvation is in nowhere else (Acts 4:12). Rejecting Jesus means expecting God’s judgment – the fire that eliminates His enemies. If one who is sanctified by the death of Jesus rejects Him, will they be able to come back? We hope so. But their lack of faith does not change the fact that Jesus is the Saviour. They would be insulting the Holy Spirit. Read Hebrews 10:28-29 and compare it with Deuteronomy 17:1-6. God’s judgment is as certain as His Word. It will be terrifying (Hebrews 10:30-31; Revelation 6:12-17) and no one will escape it, kings and commanders, the rich and the poor. Remember the question the writer asked in Hebrews 2:3. Read it.
