Topic: Alive Through Jesus Christ
Opening Prayer: Help me to understand the exceeding greatness of your power as I read through this passage, dear Lord.
Scripture: Ephesians 2:1-10
Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• What is God revealing to me in this passage?
Outline: If someone falls into a deep well, what chances has that person to come out by personal effort? Of course, none! He is doomed to die. From Romans 3:23, we see what happened to all of us. What else do we learn from v.2? Just like the person rescued from that deep well has nothing to boast of except to flow in gratitude to the benefactor, so we cannot boast of our salvation (v.9).
See what sin did to us (v.1) and the consequences of feeding the flesh in v.3. Which one do you feed most, your spirit-man or the flesh? Notice how God’s great love released to us His grace (unmerited favour) and mercy (His enabling power to forgive) and both, working through our faith in Jesus, raise us up and seat us with Him in heavenly places (vs.4-6).
What is the implication of our sitting together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus (v. 4 cf. 1: 20 – 21)? If you have tasted this great salvation, why not flow out in adorable worship and share your testimony with someone today? Note the responsibility that is ours in v.10. Let your life as a Christian be a living proof of God’s power to transform life.
Practice/Word Application
• So what? Salvation full and free can be yours today (see Romans 10:9-10).
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
• Thank you, Lord, for saving me. May my life be a living proof of your power to save.
• Pray for CAPRO, CMF and other missionary organizations for provisions and fruitful missions.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Job 37:5; Esther 1-2; Luke 12:1-31
