Today’s Daily Guide 5th July 2025 Reading By Scripture Union
TOPIC: Suffering for Christ
Opening Prayer
Dear Lord, may the entrance of your word bring light and life to all I will do today.
Bible Text
Acts 14:19-29
Meditation Question
► Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Contrary to the belief and teaching of the prosperity gospellers of today, that followers of Christ must not suffer, the scriptures make it clear that we will encounter opposition and go through suffering as we follow Jesus and spread the Gospel in this fallen world.
The Apostle Paul and his companion had their own share of suffering for the sake of the gospel (Acts 14:19). They also taught the gentile converts that “Anyone signing up for the kingdom of God has to go through plenty of hard times” (Acts 14:22 – MSG). See also Luke 9:23 and 1 Peter 2:21; 1 Peter 4:1.
Read Acts 14:20 again. If you were Paul, would you go back to Iconium? God does not only do miracles through us; He also does miracles in our lives. They stoned him and left him half-dead, but God strengthened him and raised him back to his feet. The great love that Paul had for the Gentiles and his commitment to the Gospel made him to go back to the city, What a great example for us! What other principles of missions can you identify in Acts 14:22,27?
And So
Spreading the Gospel is never easy, but it carries eternal reward (2 Corinthians 4:17).
