Scripture Union Daily Guide 5th February 2025 – OUTLINE
Jesus did not hide the challenges His followers will face as they seek to live for Him and proclaim the message of the kingdom of God to all. Notice His description of the environment in which we, His followers, will operate (Matthew 10:16a) and what we should expect (Matthew 10:17-18,21-22a). Apart from the precautions our Lord enjoins us to take (Matthew 10:16b), we also have the assurance of His abiding presence and support (Matthew 10:19-20; 29-30).
As we read through the Acts of Apostles, we see how the first disciples experienced all that Jesus warned about here. And in our world today, many are suffering for declaring their faith in Christ and sharing it. Many continue to even lose their lives. Anyone who stands firmly for the Lord will be hated by people and maltreated.
As we face these challenges in our Christian service, how can Matthew 10:24-25 help us to endure the hard times associated with missionary work or evangelism? There is a great temptation to fear men who can inflict much pain and harm to our bodies and so refuse to venture out for Christ (Matthew 10:28). Keeping quiet is, however, not an option. See Matthew 10:33 for the Lord’s warning.
