OPENING PRAYER: Sanctify my life dear Lord as I study your word in Jesus name.
SCRIPTURE READING – Acts 9:10-19a
10 Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and to him the Lord said in a vision, “Ananias.”
And he said, “Here I am, Lord.”
11 So the Lord said to him, “Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus, for behold, he is praying. 12 And in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he might receive his sight.”
13 Then Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much [a]harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem. 14 And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name.”
15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children[b] of Israel. 16 For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name’s sake.”
17 And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord [c]Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18 Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized.
19 So when he had received food, he was strengthened.
QUESTIONS FOR MEDITATION:
► Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
► Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 4 June 2025: OUTLINE
Ananias, a follower of Jesus, is given a specific and delicate assignment in a vision. Have you ever received a difficult mission from the Lord? How did you respond? Observe that while Ananias responds immediately to God’s calling, he is reluctant to go to Saul (Acts 9:13-14).
Reassured by God and knowing that Saul is praying and waiting for him (Acts 9:11b-12), Ananias goes in faith (Acts 9:17). He takes God at His word and risks his life to meet a notorious persecutor of the Way. What can you learn from Ananias’ example? Walking with God requires faith, even when His instructions, at times, do not make sense to our limited mind.
Observe that God chooses to heal and anoint Saul through someone whom he considered an enemy at first, Ananias. What can you now learn from Saul’s example? Even though Saul’s original intentions in Damascus were to harm people like Ananias, Ananias immediately accepts Saul as a brother (Acts 9:17). What an incredible lesson to learn in our African context!
Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer:
Saul wakes up to a brand-new relationship with God and others based on the grace he has received. Ask God to use you as an instrument to bring grace to others still in the dark and thank God that you are saved by His grace.
