Scripture Union Daily Guide 4 February 2022 MESSAGE
Our reading today shows three surprising ways in which life operates when God is the King in charge. V.18 Normally, we would think that something should be taken from the person who already has and given to the person who has little or nothing. However, we are not talking of material goods here. Spiritual riches will increase for those who already have; but those who think they are already spiritually rich will discover their poverty!
Vs.19‐21 We may find the way Jesus Christ responded to news of the arrival of His mother and brothers strange. In Him, however, we have a new definition of “family.” We see how He put this into practice when He was on the Cross. It was to one of His disciples, John, that He committed the care of His mother, Mary, rather than to any of his brothers (John 19:26)! We become “blood brothers and sisters” through the blood of Jesus. Thank God, his brothers became true brothers soon after his death and resurrection (Acts 12:1‐2; 15:13; Jude1).
Vs.24‐25 The disciples are terrified, and rightly so! By contrast, Jesus was sleeping peacefully through all the heaving and billowing of the waves. When they woke Him up, His word was sufficient to calm the storm. Storms come in our lives, but Jesus Christ gives us His peace.
