Topic: You Will Reap What You Sow

Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, I request that you help me to encounter you as I meditate on your word.

Scripture: 1 Kings 2:26–46

Reflection
• Is there any warning for me to heed?

Abiatha’s fate was an ancestral curse! He however, had his own part to play in the fulfilment of the evil pronouncement against the house of his ancestor, Eli, (1 Samuel 2:27–36). Today, Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13). But those who rebel against the ruling King Jesus, God’s beloved Son, shall bring God’s wrath upon themselves (John 3:16–18).

However, Abiathar’s past good deeds spared his life. He only lost the exalted office of being the National Priest for the new king. Sin is evil. Joab (vv.28–35) seemed to know the implications of his action in supporting Adonijah. He voluntarily ran to escape death, but it was too late to repent. His past deeds (see vv.31 & 32) could not be swept under the carpet. His open support for Adonijah showed clearly, he was still at enmity with the royal family. Had Shimei kept within the limits Solomon set for him, he would not have died. We also will be safe so long as we keep within the boundaries of God’s will for our lives.

⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
