SCRIPTURE: Genesis 42:1‐24

The famine is so intense that Jacob had to send his sons to Egypt to get grains for the family. Unknown to them, they were going to fulfil Joseph’s dream for which they had sold him out to the Midianites some twenty years earlier (see Genesis 37:19‐20). What is the significance of v.6b?

How do we react when people share their vision with us? Do we discourage them because we are jealous or do we encourage them? Joseph’s brothers sold him out so that God’s plan would not be fulfilled in his life. But from today’s passage, we see the sovereignty of God to fulfil His plans and purpose no matter what the devil or men may do.

Although he apparently handled them roughly and severely, underneath his action was a deep affection for his siblings and family (cf. 45:3‐11). Notice the turn of events when Joseph insists that they were spies (v.17).

They experienced for only three days that which Joseph endured for 13 years but notice the nagging guilt that immediately popped up (vs.21‐22). When we live with unconfessed sin, it continues to haunt us. Sometimes even when the sin has been confessed, the consequences remain with us for the rest of our life.

Prayer for the week
• Pray for Nigerian farmers, that God will encourage their hard work by giving them bumper harvests. Pray against pests or human destruction of what they have cultivated.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 37:23 ‐ 24

☛ Increased courage to go on in the race praying, studying God’ s word, living in holiness and shining for the Lord.
☛ Grace to go on proclaiming God’ s word among children, youths and families around at all times.
☛ Security of lives and property even as we hear all the happenings around us.

PRAY AGAINST:
⚠ The spirit of fear and intimidation knowing that our God is able to keep and sustain us.
⚠ Failing to trust the mighty power of our God daily.
