Scripture Union Daily Guide 30 April 2021, Friday Message
TOPIC: A Well Accepted Leader
Opening Prayer: Grant me depth of insight, revelation and knowledge as I meditate on this passage, O Lord.
Scripture: 1 Chronicles 11:1-25
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Yesterday’s passage ended with God turning over the kingdom to David (10:14b). Although he was anointed king of Israel long before Saul’s death, it was not until after Saul’s death that all the people came to accept him as their king. David did not try to take the kingdom by force, but trusted God to fulfil His word. All the unpleasant experiences he had to go through, especially in the hands of Saul, helped to strengthen and to prepare him to lead God’s people. A child of God must never run ahead of his Father.
The rest of our passage tells of the deep loyalty of several of David’s men as his leadership is established. What was the secret (v.9)? Is God with you in your leadership? What can we learn from David’s relationship with his three most renowned men (vs.15-19)? Like David, our Lord Jesus longs for the hearts of all who are His followers today. Despite the present sinful environment in which we live, our love for and commitment to the Lord Jesus will compel us to sacrifice our comfort and risk our lives to satisfy His desire for us.
We can be sure that the Lord will never be insensitive to the risk we bear for His sake (vs.18-19; cf. 2 Timothy 4:16-18).
